Week 7
Week 7, day 1, Rubber Boot Journalist is back from sabbatical and starting on rice and cattle articles today and praying for rain! Here are some pics of rice storage facility.
Week 7, day 2, Rubber Boot Journalist. I was shocked to learn yesterday that a lot of rice ground is being converted to walnuts. There’s apparently more money to be made leasing the ground for walnuts than growing rice. Also got the cover for Falling. Check it out!
Week 7, day 3, Rubber Boot Journalist. Working on adaptive grazing research today where the researcher are looking for ways to improve rangeland for cattle. One way they are doing that is to try and control a noxious weed called Medusahead with timed grazing.
Week 7, day 4, the Rubber Boot Journalist, my rubber boots are loaded and I’m headed off early in the freezing cold to get pictures of citrus and walnuts covered in ice. Growers are irrigating the oranges to keep them from freezing and irrigating young walnuts to keep them from dying. And once I’m back I’ll being working on the rice, walnut and grazing articles.
Week 7, day 5, Rubber Boot Journalist is in the office today transcribing rice tapes and trying to stay warm. I didn’t realize there was so much involved in getting the correct drain on a rice field, but I do now!
